The Lynbrook Village Board of Trustees awarded a new sanitation truck to be purchased by the Department of Public Works as well as a new 4,000 gallon diesel tank. The decisions were made at Monday’s board meeting, and new truck will cost approximately $134,000 while a new diesel tank will cost $105,000.
The sanitation truck that will be replaced is more than 20 years old, according to DPW Superintendent Phil Healey. “We keep them until the wheels fall off,” Healey joked of the sanitation vehicles. The new truck will have the capability of holding about 10 tons of material per trip.
Healey also requested a new diesel tank to replace the current 2,000 gallon one the village currently operates. By doubling its size the village will have more of a safety net if an emergency were to occur. “The problem is when we get a load of diesel in we can’t order until we’re below 1,000 gallons,” Healey said, “and then they only deliver 80 percent of what you order, so we’re calling like every eight or nine days. During a storm we get down there to the 200 gallon limit left in the tank.” Healey added that there is an inter-municipal agreement in place with four local villages that get their diesel fuel from Lynbrook. Also, the Lynbrook and East Rockaway school districts use diesel fuel in some capacity as well, Healey said.

Titan Wrestlers honored
Mayor William Hendrick and the village board also recognized some local wrestlers of all ages. Wrestlers from the Lynbrook Titans were given certificates, as well as volunteer coach Matthew Duffy, who received Coach of the Year honors.
Coach Rich Renz of the Lynbrook Varsity Wrestling team then recognized three standout seniors from his squad. Kenneth Jorge, Eddie Ferrall and Jon Espinosa were each honored with plaques for their achievements.
“In terms of technique he was probably one of the best wrestlers,” Renz said of Ferrall, a four-year starter. “He was so fun to watch.”
