The Lynbrook Board of Education has appointed Jill Johanson as the new High School science chairperson.

Johanson served for ten years as a chemistry teacher at Regis High School in Manhattan, where she taught advanced chemistry and biochemistry. She also moderated the student government and ran the junior class service program. Before becoming a teacher, Johanson worked as a research chemist in the drug discovery division of Merck & Co., Inc.

She holds undergraduate degrees in chemistry and biology from Bucknell University and a master’s degree in secondary science education from Teachers College at Columbia University. She recently completed her School Building Leader and School District Leader licenses in the CITE program through the College of St. Rose.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Lynbrook community,” Johanson said. “I have already seen what a wonderful place it is. As the school year begins, I look forward to working collaboratively with the other members of the science department and district staff.”
