Temple Am Echad hosts a Gospel Shabbat in Lynbrook

The voices of victory, from St. John’s University, visited Temple Am Echad on Jan. 21 to perform “cutting edge” Gospel music.

Temple Am Echad, The South Shore Reform Synagogue, Lynbrook, held a Gospel Shabbat last Friday, welcoming the Voices of Victory, the gospel choir from St. John’s University, under the direction of Nigel W. Gretton. They performed modern arrangements representing the cutting edge of contemporary gospel.
The volunteer choir of Temple Am Echad also performed, offering liturgical pieces which are a customary part of the Friday evening service, along with well-known traditional spiritual/gospel tunes. The temples’ Maestro David Close was on the keyboard, and Cantor Jerry Korobow on strings.
