Members of Stitches From the Heart, who meet weekly at the Lynbrook Library, presented 205 quilts and blankets, sewn by its members, to the Nassau County Firefighters-Operation Wounded Warrior program. Lynbrook and other Nassau firefighters will personally distribute them to wounded soldiers at Walter Reed-Bethesda Hospital and hospitals at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejuene during the second week of December. Pictured were Nassau County Legislator Fran Becker, center, who presented a proclamation to Barbara Barnhart, Lynbrook’s Stitches From the Heart representative, for their efforts in support of Operation Wounded Warrior. Also present were Assemblyman Brian Curran, Lynbrook Mayor William Hendrick, Trustee Hillary Becker, Lynbrook and Nassau firefighters, and some of the members who did the sewing — from their hearts. They also were visited by a very special U.S. Marine who has served two tours of duty.
