Tuney Tots, a West Hempstead-based company, is joining with the Malverne School of Music to begin offering music classes for babies and young children.

The small local business offers a curriculum that includes a variety of baby-friendly instruments, popular songs and music, as well as a special parachute and bubble segment. Tuney Tots’ upbeat, lively and educational music-and-movement program has been offered for many years by-invitation-only in West Hempstead. Under the new arrangement, the program will now be available to the public, at convenient weekday morning hours. Offerings will include a range of classes, catering to children 4 months through 5 years old, all of which include adult-chaperone participation.

The program is attractive both to babies and young children, as “each class stimulates and challenges the child according to his age and developmental abilities,” according to Tuney Tots owner and Director Kira Nurieli. “This is a great opportunity for families to start their children in musical development while they are young. They can begin with Tuney Tots, and when they are ready for an instrument, lessons are available right here where they are already comfortable and familiar.”

On the new arrangement, Steve Tice, of the Malverne School of Music, said he’s “excited” to be able to offer a new program for young children. “We’ve always believed in the power of children getting an early start on their love for music,” he said, “but for the last few years we haven’t been able to find the right partner to do so. Kira and her staff are going to be a great fit for this vital need.”

Classes are set to begin the third week of October and run through December for the Fall 2011 term. More information is available on the Tuney Tots website: www.tuneytots.com.
