From bone-buckets to beverage-filled mason jars, Longhorns Saloon & Barbeque is the type of place where one can kick back and just dig in. Be it wings, brisket or ribs so tender they fall off the bone, you won't go home hungry and will probably leave with a bundle. Scribbling on the wall like, "It's no disgrace to get sauce on your face," says it clearly.

Tucked away off the beaten path, Swiss Tavern is a landmark gem worth finding. German immigrants, Joe and Ilse Engelke, purchased the building in 1966. After serving the neighborhood for many years, they sold the business, which became Canno's Swiss Tavern, a musicians' haunt, for over a decade. Three years ago, the Engelke's sons, Bob and Norm, along with Terry Ferguson, reacquired ownership.

On entering Goldie's, we were captivated at once by incredible aromas. Warm, buttery garlic bread arrived first, a luscious indication of what was to come. Ambience was warm and festive, with muted lighting and congenial servers who set the pace.
