Budget passed; D’Esposito will join the board

Voters in Malverne responded very favorably to passing the school district’s proposed budget of $54.5 million, which brings a tax levy increase of .83 percent, the lowest the community has seen in two decades. They also easily voted in Proposition 2, which asked voters to approve $1.6 million in capital reserve fund expenditures, which carries no additional cost for taxpayers, the district said.

Jeanne D’Esposito was the easy winner in the school board trustee election. D’Esposito is a newcomer to the school board, but not to the district, where D’Esposito has been volunteering for more than 13 years. She will take Michael Taylor’s seat, who has held the position for the past four years.

The final tallies were as follows:

Budget: Passed

Yes: 662
No: 261

Proposition II: Passed
Yes: 698
No: 207

Board Election: Jeanne D’Esposito

D’Esposito: 530
Michael Taylor: 246
Jan Kasal: 116
