Cops seek information, report area crimes in Lakeview and W.H.

Detectives with the Nassau County Police Department Robbery Squad are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Nov. 14 at 12:55 p.m. in West Hempstead, and they are seeking the public’s help.

According to detectives, a black man entered the Roslyn Savings Bank at 50 Hempstead Turnpike and presented a demand note to a teller. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, he fled the bank on foot in an unknown direction. There were seven employees in the bank at the time of the robbery and no injuries were reported.

The man is described as being 6 feet tall and between 30 and 40 years old. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap.

Detectives request that anyone with information regarding the crime call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous.


Precinct crime report
Detectives with the Fifth Precinct report the following crimes in Lakeview and West Hempstead for the first two weeks of November.

  • A motorcycle was stolen from the a house on Colony Street in West Hempstead between 3 p.m. on Nov. 4 and 9 a.m. on Nov. 8. It did not have a battery.
  • Three people who live on Roosevelt Street in West Hempstead reported that their cars were keyed. The first victim reported that both sides of her vehicle, which was parked in the driveway outside her home were keyed between 9 and 11 a.m. on Nov. 10. Another victim reported that both the side of his car and its trunk were keyed between 9 p.m. on Nov. 10 and 2 p.m. on Nov. 11, while the car was parked in his driveway. The third victim said the hook of her car, which was parked on the street in front of her house, was keyed between 7 a.m. and noon on Nov. 12.
  • A caller reported that the front glass door of Palin’s Barbershop, at 275A Hempstead Turnpike, was shattered. It is determined that it was shattered some time between 9:30 on Nov. 11 and 9 a.m. on Nov. 12.
  • In response to community complaints, officers with the precinct’s Problem Oriented Policing unit and patrol officers conducted an investigation of a Mobil Gas Station on Hempstead Turnpike that targeted the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors. The defendant, Atta Mohammad, sold an alcoholic beverage to an underage police agent without asking for identification on Nov. 11 at 9:05 p.m.
  • Officers with the POP unit and patrol officers conducted a similar investigation at the Middle Store Deli and Grocery on Nov. 19 at 7:50 p.m. and found that Melvin Tiburcio sold an alcoholic beverage to an underage police agent without asking for I.D.
