Crime Watch for Malverne, West Hempstead and Lakeview

Burglary arrest
Detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s Fifth Squad report the arrest of 16-year-old James Wells-Jones for a burglary that occurred in Lakeview on Nov. 3 at 2:10 p.m.

Wells-Jones and three others, who were not yet arrested, entered a residence on Orlando Avenue by forcing open a bathroom window on the side of the house. Once inside, detectives said, they took a television and iPod and left the home. When confronted by a witness who was outside the front of the house, the four subjects put down the television and fled on foot.

After a description of the subjects was broadcasted, police located and arrested Wells-Jones near the intersection of Glenn Road and Coventry Road North. The stolen iPod was found in his pockets.

Subsequent to investigation, detectives discovered that Wells-Jones was involved in four other burglaries in Lakeview: at a home on Derrick Adkins Lane on Sept. 30, a home on Champlain Avenue on Oct. 26, a home on Colonial Road on Oct. 27 and another home on Derrick Adkins Lane on Oct. 31.

Wells-Jones was charged with five counts of second-degree burglary and arraigned on Nov. 4 in First District Court in Hempstead.

Detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s Fifth Precinct reported that the following crimes occurred in West Hempstead and Lakeview last month:

  • Attempted burglary of a home on Myrna Drive in Lakeview between 9 a.m. at 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 19.
  • Burglary of Pizza Cucina, a pizzeria located on Nassau Boulevard in West Hempstead, between 10 p.m. on Oct. 22 and 8:50 a.m. on Oct. 23.
  • Theft of a laptop and loose change from a car, which may have been unlocked, parked in a driveway on Willow Street in West Hempstead. The incident occurred between 8 p.m. on Oct. 23 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 24.
  • Theft of a pocketbook from a car parked on Williams Street in West Hempstead. The victim said she parked at the location and dropped her daughter off at school between 8:50 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 25, and that someone had entered the car and taken the pocketbook at that time.
  • Various items were taken from a car parked in a driveway on Adams Avenue in West Hempstead between 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 and 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 24.
  • A laptop and tool set with taken from a car parked in a driveway on Lincoln Road in Lakeview around 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 25.
  • A wallet was stolen from an unlocked car parked in front of its owner’s residence on Clinton Avenue in Lakeview between 5 and 6 p.m. on Oct. 21.
  • A wallet, GPS and iPod were stolen from a car parked on Oakford Street in West Hempstead between 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 and 3 p.m. on Oct. 22.
  • In a report for criminal mischief, detectives said an unknown person damages Halloween ornaments at a house on Roosevelt Boulevard in West Hempstead between 8 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 19.
  • A house on Colonial Road in Lakeview was burglarized between 10:30 and 11 a.m. on Oct. 27.
  • A house on Derrick Adkins Lane in Lakeview was burglarized between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.
  • There was an attempted burglary at a house on Pinebrook Court in Lakeview between 8:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 1.
  • Items were stolen from a car parked on Lakeview Avenue in Lakeview between 11:55 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 26.
  • Four manhole covers were stolen from Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead between 9 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 30.
  • Several items were stolen from the back seat of a car parked on Hoptacong Avenue in Lakeview between 7 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 31.
  • Items were also stolen from the rear of a vehicle parked on Iris Place in Lakeview between 5:30 and 7 p.m. on Nov. 1.
  • The window of a car parked on Ostego Road in Lakeview was broken between 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 26.
  • Damage was done to the rear windshield of a car parked on William Street in West Hempstead between 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 1 p.m. on Oct. 29.
