Firefighter Paul Brady’s name to be placed on state memorial wall

The Malverne Fire Department announced on June 27 that fallen firefighter Paul Brady's name will finally be inscribed on the New York State Fallen Firefighter's Memorial Wall in Albany.

On June 27, the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court overturned a decision by Nassau County Supreme Court in 2011.

The Malverne Fire Department appealed to the Nassau County Supreme Court after the state Fallen Firefighters Memorial Appeals Committee denied their request in August 2010 to place Brady's name on the memorial wall. Nassau's supreme court, however, without a hearing, denied the petition and dismissed the proceeding.

But on June 27, the Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court ordered Nassau County Supreme Court to reverse its decision and direct the state Fallen Firefighters Memorial Appeals Committee to include Brady's name on the memorial wall.

"We are pleased with the decision," the Malverne Fire Department stated in a released statement to the Herald. "Although we are still saddened by the loss of Paul, we are happy that he will finally be honored in a way he deserves."

The Herald will continue to update this story.
