Dr. James Tolle, former superintendent of the Malverne Union Free School District, was  recently inducted into the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame.

Based upon his contributions to high school athletics in New York State, he is one of only five who were chosen for induction this year. Dr. Tolle was honored at the 87th Annual NYSPHSAA Banquet held on Aug. 4 in Ellicottville, NY.

“As a voice of reason who is passionate about high school athletics, Dr. Tolle is most deserving of this award,” said former NYSPHSAA president Patrick Pizzarelli.

Tolle served as superintendent of Malverne schools from 1979 until his retirement in 1992 and has been a member of the NYSPHSAA Championship Advisory Committee since 1988. He served as president of NYSPHSAA from 1994 to 1996 and was appointed chair of the Championship Advisory Committee in 2009. Tolle also received the 2006 Leaders in Education Award from St. John’s University, of which he is an alumnus.
