Earlier this month, detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s Third Squad reported the details of the arrests of four women, including one from West Hempstead, for grand larceny and endangering the welfare of a child.

Around 9 p.m. on April 11 in East Garden City, 19-year-olds Jessica Stanley (of Great Neck) and Caswell Jenkins (of Manhasset) and 18-year-olds Denise Irby (of West Hempstead) and Britney Goins (of Great Neck) were observed in the JC Penny, located at 630 Old County Road.

Stanley was carrying a 14-day-old boy and Goins was pushing a baby carriage. All four women were seen removing merchandise from display racks and placing it on the baby carriage. They then entered one stall of a fitting room and concealed the merchandise inside the carriage with the child. They exited the store and were apprehend by JC Penny Loss prevention agents.

The total value of the merchandise was $2,325. The women were arrested and the child was released to the custody of a family member. Irby was also found to be in possession of marijuana.

All four women were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Irby was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. They were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on April 12.

Bail was set for Stanley at $10,000, for Irby at $20,000 and for Goins at $15,000. Jenkins was conditionally released to probation.
