Lakeview NAACP joins March on Washington

The NAACP Lakeview Branch, joined by Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, set out for Washington, D.C., earlier this month to join thousands in the One Nation March on Washington.

On Oct. 2, some two dozen people gathered at the St. Paul AME Church in Rockville Centre and boarded a bus that took them to D.C.

Lakeview branch President Bea Bayley said she the trip and march were successful and fulfilling. “I was humbled in the presence of some long-time civil rights leaders like Dick Gregory, Harry Belefante and Al Sharpton,” she said. “I felt the atmosphere of the original March on Washington. I am still feeling the physical affects of the march, but I am in no way tired. We must continue to march the streets of our communities to get out the vote.”
