Malverne native selected to join “Teach for America”

Malverne resident Erin Elizabeth Graetzer recently earned the responsibility of shaping young minds across the country as a newly minted member of “Teach for America” due to her academic excellence and dedication to leadership.

With her accomplishments as a Magna cum Laude graduate from Marist College, Graetzer managed to remain on the Dean’s List each semester while mounting several volunteer projects during her undergraduate career. In regards to her active involvement in extracurricular activities, Graetzer demonstrated prime leadership skills as President of the Marist College Dance Ensemble.

As part of her service to the Malverne community, Graetzer has assisted with the Summer Camp, Youth Ministry and Family Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in the last eight years. Graetzer also served as President of the Dance Theater at Sacred Heart Academy while appearing in ballet productions such as “The Nutcracker” and “Phantom of the Opera.” Through her diligent service as a Sacred Heart student, Graetzer received the “Teacher of Tomorrow Award,” an accolade that has paved the way for her bright future with “Teach for America.”

“Once again, Malverne has another resident who is committed to giving themselves to help others,” Mayor Patricia McDonald said about Graetzer’s recent achievement.

In the past academic year, “Teach for America” has selected 10,000 teachers to educate 750,000 students in urban and rural public schools.
