One of the most active residents in the village, Malvernite Carl Prizzi added another role to his resume on Aug. 4 as he was sworn in as the village’s newest trustee.

“I’m very excited for this role and for the opportunity to serve the Village of Malverne,” said Prizzi, a Malvernite for the past 17 years. “I’m certainly looking forward to giving back to the community.”

Among his roles in the village, Prizzi, 42, is a board member at Crossroads Farm and a scout leader at Boy Scout Troop 24. In 2015, Prizzi was named as the Herald’s Person of the Year, alongside Malverne residents Brian Lewis and Rick White.

“I think he’ll do a great job as trustee,” said Malverne Mayor Keith Corbett. “As someone who has the community at heart with a young family who I think will do a lot of hard work and a lot of commitment to this village as he’s shown in each of his endeavors.”

Prizzi filled an open seat that was vacated by Lauren Touchard, who recently moved to another community. Touchard joined the village board in 2018. In a relatively short time, however, she had immersed herself in the community as commissioner of the Police Department, the Department of Public Works and the Building Department. She also served as liaison to the Youth Board and the Celebrations and the Tree and Beautification committees.

“We really appreciate her service to the village over the years and we wish her and her family the best in their new endeavors,” Corbett said.

“Lauren Touchard was the definition of what it means to be a good public servant looking after the community,” said Village Trustee Tim Sullivan. “She was literally out there putting up bows and Christmas lights . . . [and] whether it was running the youth board or our summer recreation program, she really served our village well.”
