This year, the Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps held its officers' installation dinner in honor of Carole Scheer, a friend and colleague of the Corps who died in September.

Scheer joined the VAC with the Corps Auxiliary and then became a certified EMT. She remain active for years to follow and became a life member. She served in various capacities during her years on the board — as a driver, president for six years, vice president, chairman, vice chairman and board member. Scheer was also active on a number of committees and organized many of the VAC's installation dinners. She also assisted with the Youth Squad.

Throughout her time with the VAC, Scheer responded to 3,013 calls. In honor and gratitude of her service and dedication, the VAC retired her operator number, 58.

Malverne Mayor Patricia McDonald was on hand to swear in the officers.
