On July 21, Malverne residents of all ages flooded Howard T. Herber Middle School for this year’s Project H.O.T.S.H.O.T.S. event, where volunteers filled 5,000 brand new backpacks with various school supplies to be shipped to students across the world.

Project H.O.T.S.H.O.T.S., a global charity started in Malverne in 2006, has provided tens of thousands of underprivileged children with sports gear, music and art supplies and various school supply-filled backpacks.

This year, the event paid tribute to the late Malverne Deputy Mayor Jim Callahan, who many considered instrumental in the formation of the organization.

Residents united to fill, check and box brand new bags, which were later shipped to schools, organizations and families all over Long Island, parts of the U.S. and even overseas.
