Thefts rock West Hempstead, police seek suspect in Lakeview robbery

Detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s 5th Precinct reported the following crimes in West Hempstead and Lakeview:

  • Burglary of a home on Greenwood Court in West Hempstead between 8 p.m. Aug. 16 and 10 p.m. Aug. 17.
  • Between noon on Aug. 13 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 15, unknown suspect(s) broke the door to the shed of a home located on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead and stole scrap metal.
  • Unknown suspects stole a GPS from a car parked on Edgewood Road in Lakeview between 7 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 10 a.m. on Aug. 8.
  • An umbrella and tires and rims were stolen from a car parked on Poplar Street in West Hempstead between 2 p.m. on Aug. 18 and 11 a.m. on Aug. 19.
  • Assorted bills were stolen from a car parked on Buckingham Road in West Hempstead between midnight and 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 21.
  • A GPS, wallet and personal papers were stolen from a car parked on Spruce Street in West Hempstead between 7 p.m. and midnight on Aug. 20.
  • Unknown suspect(s) broke the rear window of a car parked on Junard Boulevard in West Hempstead between 11:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 16.

Detectives with the Fifth Squad are seeking information about a robbery that occurred in Lakeview on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 11:35 p.m.

Two men approached a 21-year-old man from behind while he was walking on Woodfield Road in the vicinity of Canandaigua Avenue at that time. One of the suspects made a motion to his waistband, as if he had a weapon, and then pulled off the victim’s gold chain, which had a medallion. The suspects then took the victim’s wallet and iPhone and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

No injuries were reported.
