West Hempstead pedestrian killed is identified

A man lying in the west lane of Woodfield Road in West Hempstead who was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday at 3:40 a.m. has been identified.

 Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives said  the victim is 52-year-old Michael Tompos of West Hempstead.

According to police, an unknown person saw Tompos in the road and tried to assist when a four-door sedan driving west hit the man and did not stop. Police said Tompos was pronounced dead at the scene by a police medic.

Detectives are continuing to investigate and ask that anyone with information call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
