As everyone knows, the East Coast was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy on Oct. 29. People lost power. Many lost their homes. Some even lost their lives.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District is planning an evening to offer local residents the opportunity to discuss the challenges that they faced during Hurricane Sandy. Titled “Coping with the Aftereffects of Superstorm Sandy: An Evening to Listen, Learn and Share,” the session will be led by credentialed disaster-support professionals from the American Red Cross, and will be held in the Mepham High School auditorium on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m.

In better times, Ralph Isaacs drove his family from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon in a rented RV. He loved living in the RV. Now he dreads it. For nearly two weeks after Hurricane Sandy pummeled the South Shore, he lived in one, parked in front of his one-story Long Beach home.
