John Pinto, a former member of the North Merrick Board of Education, spoke during the public comment section of a North Merrick board meeting on April 9. He called state standardized tests a “menace” that cause students undue stress.

Palma said that the Merrick district sought to follow the law while avoiding putting young children in compromising or confrontational situations.
