Two Freeport teenagers have been charged with grand larceny in connection with the theft of car tires and rims from a North Merrick driveway.

Luis Manuel Arias-Rodriguez, 18, and Adam Durantes, 17, allegedly stole the tires and rims off a 2008 Honda Accord in the driveway of a Midian Street home, Nassau County Police said. A witness saw the pair remove the car parts and separately flee the scene in an older-model red Honda Civic and an older-model black Honda Civic, authorities said. A police officer later spotted two cars matching this description parked on East Centennial Avenue in Roosevelt and alerted two other officers from the First Precinct, which is based in Baldwin.

The officers responded to East Centennial Avenue and found two men sitting in a red Honda Civic, police said. The officers then arrested Arias-Rodriguez and Durantes.

The two were arraigned on July 11 in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of fourth degree grand larceny and possession of burglar tools.
