Birch Elementary School in Merrick recently held its third annual Veterans Celebration.
The day began with a breakfast, at which school faculty and staff had the chance to meet and greet the invited veterans. Following the meal, there was an indoor parade, with the veterans marching through the school, greeting students and teachers, who thanked the veterans for the sacrifices that they have made. The emotional celebration was replete with patriotic songs, cheers, high-fives and tears.
