Camp Avenue School marks Walk to School Day

Posted

Camp Avenue Elementary School in North Merrick recently held its annual Walk to School Day, encouraging children to arrive at school the old-fashioned way -– on foot.

Escorted by their parents, kids were seen strolling on Merrick and Camp avenues during the early hours of the morning as they made their way to class.

At a recent Board of Education meeting, North Merrick Superintendent David Feller urged parents to have their kids walk to school as often as possible to limit the amount of cars on the road and prevent traffic and congestion in front of the local schools.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and Legislator Dave Denenberg also got in on the fun and joined the children on their walk.
