Shake Up Your Brain!

Posted

Award winning musician Roger Day, renowned for his wit, whimsy, and wordplay, will share his “braininess” with Long Island families when he brings his Shake Up Your Brain! show to Merrick Library on Thursday, February 18, 11 a.m., and North Merrick Library, Friday, Feb. 19, 11 a.m. The show is largely comprised of material from Roger’s new CD, Why Does Gray Matter? … And Other Brainy Songs for Kids!. It is devoted to the wonders and mysteries of the human brain, encouraging kids to “use their noodles” for creative problem solving and letting them know that it’s cool to be smart! In the spirit of Schoolhouse Rock and Bill Nye, the Science Guy, Roger Day’s Shake Up Your Brain! features such songs as “Brain Food – Eat it Up!” which uses omega 3, lypocene and green tea in a rock-inspired tune about the best foods for brain health. The “Left Brain/Right Brain” song illustrates the different functions of each side of the brain: the left brain is a Bach-inspired baroque string quartet and the right brain, naturally, is a bad British punk rock band. Admission is free. Merrick Library, 2279 Merrick Ave., Merrick. (516) 377-6112. North Merrick Library, 1691 Meadowbrook Rd., North Merrick. (516) 378-7474.
