Fire company holding tree sale

Temperatures might have dipped into the 20s and 30s on Saturday, with the threat of a blizzard, but that didn't stop members of the Merrick Fire Department's Empire Hose Company No. 3 from holding their 13th annual Christmas tree fundraiser, with funds raised benefiting the Merrick F.D.
Fresh-cut, premium-quality trees and wreaths are available through Christmas, or while supplies last, with tree heights ranging from two to 14 feet.
The sale is taking place at 2300 Merrick Ave., one block south of Sunrise Highway, across from the Merrick Library. Hours are: Monday to Friday, 6 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call (516) 378-3633.
