Freeport motorcyclist killed in Merrick

A Freeport motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a 2015 Lexus sedan driven by a 68-year-old man in Merrick on Sunday at 4:42 p.m., according to Nassau County police.

The Lexus driver, whom authorities did not identify, was making a left turn from the westbound lane of the Sunrise Highway to the southbound side of Hewlett Avenue when his car collided with motorcyclist Joel McClain, 23, of Freeport, according to officials.

McClain was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lexus driver and two female passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Merrick Fire Department volunteers responded. No criminality was apparently involved, police said. Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety inspections.
