Wellington C. Mepham High School’s parking lot was the spot for celebration on May 1 as teachers sat outside and atop their cars to cheer on dozens of seniors driving by.
In lieu of traditional senior celebrations, the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District organized parking lot parades for the graduating seniors in each of the three high schools. Although events such as prom and graduation are indefinitely postponed, the parade was an opportunity for teachers to give a celebratory send-off to their students.
As the seniors’ cars came rolling in, decked-out in “Once a Pirate, always a Pirate!” mottos and the logos of their future colleges and universities, teachers waved congratulatory signs and shouted words of endearment.
Mepham’s mascot, The Pirate, was also there to celebrate, along with members of the North Bellmore Fire Department.
