Merrick budgets pass, incumbents re-elected

In the Merrick School District, incumbent school board Trustees Gina Piskin and Sigal Negrin, who was recently appointed to the board, ran unopposed and were re-elected. Piskin received 943 votes, and Negrin garnered 832.

The Merrick District’s $45.2 million budget passed with 840 “yes” votes — 68.7 percent of the total — and 382 “no” votes.

In North Merrick, three Board of Education incumbents, Wendy Gargiulo, Linda Fuller and George “Skip” Haile, ran unopposed and were re-elected. Gargiulo received 546 votes; Fuller, 531; and Haile, 519.

The North Merrick District’s $28.9 million budget passed by a tally of 598-344. The “yes” votes accounted for 63 percent of the total.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s $139.5 million spending plan passed with 3,193 “yes” votes — 64 percent of the total — and 1,762 “no” votes.
