As the leaves began to change color and the calendar flipped from August to September this past week, it could only mean one thing: School was back in session.
That is why, on Sept. 7, Merrick students were seen being dropped off by parents and escorted off of school buses by teachers as they returned for the first day of school.
Parents of students from Camp Avenue Elementary School in North Merrick and Roland Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick ensured that their kids returned to school in style, equipping them with new school supplies and giving them a quick peck on the cheek before they departed.
But ... not before getting in a quick snapshot to document the first day. The Herald was there to catch the action.
