Off-duty cop saves Bellmore toddler from drowning

Posted

On Sunday afternoon, a 2-year-old drowning in a pool was rescued by a neighbor who just happened to be an off-duty police officer.

According to Nassau County police, at 4 p.m. in Bellmore, officers received a 911 call for a child drowning in a pool at a Shore Road home. Upon arriving, the Nassau officers found that a Suffolk County detective — and neighbor to the child — had removed the child from the pool and started performing CPR.

The child regained consciousness and was transported to an area hospital for treatment by the Bellmore Fire Department, and was listed in stable condition at the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit as of Sunday night.
