Police nab burglary suspect in North Merrick

Nassau County Police arrested and charged a 19-year-old Roosevelt man with possession of stolen property and burglary after a chase through North Merrick on May 2.

Police pursued the suspect, Terence Raye, onto the Meadowbrook Parkway and then through North Merrick after he was caught driving a stolen vehicle on Monday afternoon, according to officials. Police said they spotted Raye in the car at the corner of Camp Avenue and Meadowbrook Road and pulled him over. Raye then ran off, hopped on a bicycle and pedaled off down Washington Avenue. From there, he abandoned the bicycle and ran onto the Meadowbrook Parkway, according to police.

Officers were seen on nearby bridges over the Meadowbrook acting as spotters, looking for the suspect. A helicopter flew overhead as well. Police chased Raye into a Sumner Avenue home, where he was apprehended at 3:39 p.m.

Raye was charged with possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, burglary in the second degree for allegedly entering a home unlawfully, petit larceny, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and a host of driving infractions.

Raye was due in First District Court in Hempstead on May 3.
