Police officer found dead at Mill Pond

Nassau County Police closed off Mill Pond Preserve early Monday morning when a pedestrian came across a body on the bike path.

A Nassau County police officer was found dead Monday morning at Mill Pond Preserve in Bellmore. Police report that a pedestrian was walking through the preserve when he came across a male’s body on the bike path. It is believed to be an act of suicide.
Police did not say how the officer died. Officials would only say that he had been with the department for 25 years. His name has not been released. The time of death was sometime between Sunday at 5:56 p.m. and Monday at 6:30 a.m. The investigation is ongoing, according to officials.
