S. Merrick civic group honors auxiliary police officer

Posted

Auxiliary Police Officer Eugene Lowenberg was honored with the South Merrick Civic Association's Community Service Award at a Feb. 23 meeting. The 46-year Merrick resident was honored for his commitment to the community and years of service with the Nassau County Auxiliary Police.

"He's a devoted member of SMCCA and also has served with the auxiliary police for many years with the goal of making Merrick a better, safer place to live," civic association President Joe Baker said of the 77-year-old honoree.

Lowenberg was joined by fellow auxiliary police officers who, in addition to offering their congratulations, educated Merokeans about their role in the community.

Representatives from the Nassau County Police Department's Problem Oriented Police also made their monthly report regarding local crimes. Though officers assured residents that recent burglaries in Merrick are not part of a larger pattern, the South Merrick Civic Association urged residents to join the Neighborhood Watch Program.
