After more than 50 years of educating South Shore children, Sacred Heart Elementary School in North Merrick recently held its final graduation.
Last December, the Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that Sacred Heart would be one of six Long Island Catholic schools to close this year. Ever since, Sacred Heart students have put on a brave face and continued the school year strongly, celebrating at annual events like Catholic Schools Week, Field Day and graduation.
The ceremony, held in the church, ended, appropriately, with students tossing their caps in the air.
