Sacred Heart celebrates Catholic Schools Week

Posted

Sacred Heart School in North Merrick is celebrating its 50th year of providing quality education to students from Merrick, Bellmore, East Meadow, Freeport and the surrounding towns. Last week, students celebrated Spirit Day, a day of fun, games and friendly competition that falls during Catholic Schools Week.

With Sacred Heart’s principal, Kerry Kahn, who joined the school in 2008, there have been myriad new programs added recently at Sacred Heart School.

Students now enjoy the addition of a drama club, book club, Spanish club, Scrabble club, yearbook club, intramural and extramural sports, art instruction at the after-school program, academic intervention services and an enrichment program for gifted students. There have been many family activities added to the school year, such as Family Bingo Night, a Back to School Picnic and varied sporting events.

Sacred Heart School also announced a new toddler program that will be added to its Early Childhood Program, which is directed at 3- and 4-year-olds. The Toddler Program will begin in the fall of 2010. The full-day Preschool Program for 4-year-olds includes foreign-language instruction, music instruction, art instruction, library and physical education. For those who are interested, Sacred Heart also offers a half-day preschool program five times a week and a full-day program three times a week.

At Sacred Heart School, each child is offered a competitive academic education while developing his or her faith. Sacred Heart is currently enrolling students for the Toddler/Preschool Program through eighth grade. Space is limited.
