A SUV and van collided on the Sunrise Highway in Merrick on Thursday.

A SUV exiting the northbound Meadowbrook Parkway onto the eastbound Sunrise Highway in Merrick broadsided an eastbound van on the Sunrise last Thursday afternoon, rolling the van over and crashing into a third car, according to officials. The driver of the SUV and the driver of the van had to extricated by members of Nassau County Police Department special service units and volunteers from the Merrick Fire Department. The injured were rushed to area hospitals. The cause of the crash was unknown at press time. Crime scene investigators searched the area around the crash for four hours, tying up traffic.
