Oceanside, Lawrence split Tip-Off Classic

Oceanside rallied in the second half to force overtime and beat Lawrence, 47-43, in the girls’ basketball portion of the Oceanside Rotary Club’s inaugural Art Heyman Memorial Tip-Off Classic on Dec. 6.

Jeannie Callanan had the winning basket in OT for the Lady Sailors, who trailed 22-14 at halftime. Claire McNamara had 13 points and six assists, Woodlyn Daniel added nine points and 10 rebounds, and MVP Ashley Engelhard had five points and six steals. Lawrence’s Nicole Robinson paced all scorers with 14.

In the boy’s game, Lawrence scored at least 20 points in all four quarters and beat Oceanside, 89-53. Dwayne Daniel led the Golden Tornadoes with 32 points, while Hamed Shamseldin (18) and Clifton Lyerly (17) also scored in double figures. Hunter Sabety paced the Sailors with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
