An electrifying lesson

Fourth graders at Francis X. Hegarty School in Island Park had an opportunity last week to learn about electricity as they benefited from a special presentation by the Science Museum of Long Island. The program is one of several supplemental learning experiences sponsored during the school year by the Island Park PTA.

Sean Goggin, a science educator with the Science Museum of Long Island, led students through a hands-on demonstration about how electricity is generated and distributed. As part of the lesson, students worked in teams and, using batteries, wires, and light bulbs, they built and successfully tested simple, series and parallel circuits.
