Daisies adopt a family

Oceanside Daisy Scout Troop # 2049 decided to adopt a family for the holidays after learning how some families are struggling this time of year.

Co-Troop Leader Sue Casten said the girls talked about needy families where the mother might be sick, or the father has no job, so the children might not get presents.

Troop leader Christie Lockwood did some research and decided to utilize We The People United (WTPU), a 501 C3 charity in Melville, that collects food, items and donated money and gives them to working poor families, families where the adults work but still don’t make enough to cover their needs.

WTPU matched the troop with a family of four, a sick mother with three children ages six, four and two.

The Daisy girls took it upon themselves to collect goods for the family. They filled two tables with gifts for the children, and pair of pajamas for the mother.
