Participants in Island Park’s annual Labor Day Mile Swim jumped into the water on Sept. 7 before stroking their way through Reynolds Channel. The swim, a tradition since 1940, drew about 30 participants.

More than 30 people came out to Masone Beach on Memorial Day to participate in Island Park's annual Mile Swim.
Though this year’s event was scaled back from previous years, it certainly preserved the Island Park tradition that started in 1940. The one-mile swim was a solid success this year.
Placing first in the swim was John Gubelli, who grew up in Island Park. Island APrk Mayor Jim Ruzicka finished the swim, although he didn't take home a trophy.
