Fire Departments look for volunteers

Oceanside Fire Department held an open house as part of the statewide “RecruitNY Weekend” on Apr. 25 and 26, all part of an effort to increase volunteer firefighter numbers.

Fire engines and Ladder trucks and ambulances were on display for all to see. Kids were given helmets and coloring books.

In addition there was a tour of the newly renovated firehouse, and a demonstration of kitchen safety.

“Volunteer firefighters protect our homes and communities twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week,” said County Executive Ed Mangano. “They are our friends and neighbors, and they take pride in helping our communities whenever and wherever support is needed.”
