Fire in Island Park nursing home

A fire broke out early in the morning of Nov. 1 in a room at the Bayview Nursing Home, 1 Long Beach Road in Island Park, injuring one resident.

The Island Park Fire Department responded to numerous calls for a fire at Bayview Nursing Home just before 3 a.m. The building was evacuated, but fire fighters found the sole resident of the room where the fire started still in his room. He had suffered serious burns to his legs. The IPFD transported him to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Three employees of the nursing home were treated at the scene and needed no further medical assistance. Six police officers that responded to the fire were taken to South Nassau and treated for smoke inhalation and then released.

The Long Beach, Oceanside, Point Lookout-Lido and Rockville Centre fire departments also responded.

The fire is still under investigation.
