Island Park resident Dorothy Jean (Carman-Wessinger) D’Angelo died peacefully on Oct. 30. She was 87.

D’Angelo was born on March 14, 1933, to the late Harry Wessinger and the late Florence Carman.

She held many jobs early on, but her most memorable was at the Texas Ranger. D’Angelo had a long career at Stur-Dee Health Foods in Island Park, and in recent years, she retired from Only Natural. While there, she developed many longtime friends and relationships.

Her pride was her family, and she had many good friends. She was an avid New York Rangers fan and a champion bowler. She enjoyed going to plays and shows, and especially liked going out for meals. She was easily recognized and well liked in any establishment she went to. She made many friends while getting her hair and nails done at her weekly visits to Salon on Park in Long Beach.

D’Angelo was a member of Island Park United Methodist Church and was devoted to her faith. She especially liked cats, whether it was a stray cat or her own sweet cat, Angel, she cared for them all. Dorothy was loving, loyal, respectful, kind, honest and a giving person with a fun and quick-witted personality. She had a smile for all she met.

D’Angelo was predeceased by her husband, Frederick D’Angelo, her longtime companion, Mike Price, her children, John and Yvonne D’Angelo and her niece, Laurie Sanzone. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Denine D’Angelo (Bill); her grandchildren, Fredrick D’Angelo (Kristina), Marie D’Angelo, Gina Navarro (Alex), Serena D’Angelo and John M. D’Angelo; three great-grandchildren, Violet and Rosalie D’Angelo, and Roman Navarro; her sisters, Pricilla Sanzone (Anthony) and Alice Brenner; her nieces, Yvonne Graci (Matthew), Donna Brenner, Jennifer Rowell (John), Lucia Sanzone  (Michael) and Katherine Cover; her great nieces Leanna, Nicole, Angela, and Maria Graci and Kaitlyn, Meghan and Lindsay Rowell; her great nephews Jayden and Vincenzo; and  Deborah (Timothy), Taylor Randolph, Michael Sosnowy, Charles Price (Anna) and Lisa Rappa (Sal).

A memorial service was planned for 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 6 at Sacred Heart Church, 282 Long Beach Road in Island Park. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River.
