Andreas “Andy” Arnoldt, a San Diego resident for many years, passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, after fighting health issues for many years. He was 69.

Arnoldt was born on Oct. 10, 1946 at what is now Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, along with his twin brother, Arthur Arnoldt.

Arnoldt grew up in Oceanside, graduating from Oceanside High School in 1965. He graduated from Farmingdale Community College with an associate degree in Drafting. He worked for Nassau County Public Works for over 20 years as draftsman/engineer. In 1983 he moved to Island Park, where he took up bike riding on the Long Beach Boardwalk. He and his sister, Marilynn, made many day bike trips on Long Island and New York City. Among the most memorable were Central Park and two New York City 5 Borough Bike Tours.

Due to health issues, Arnoldt retired early and moved to San Diego in 1988, where he was able to continue bike riding year round and made many new friends. Over the years, Arnoldt’s health made it hard for him to travel. His last trip to Oceanside was for his birthday in 2005 when a bench was dedicated in his honor. In 2006 he was able to travel to Phoenix for his 60th birthday party at a horse ranch.

In additon to his brother and sister, Arnoldt is survived by two children, Hope and Adam, and a granddaughter.
