Jack Postman died on March 2 at his home in Oceanside surrounded by family. He was 91. An Oceanside resident for over 61 years, he leaves behind his wife of 68 years Sylvia.

Born in Brooklyn on April 20, 1923, Postman moved to Oceanside in 1953, when the neighborhood was mostly woods and deer were spotted in the backyard. Jack was an avid softball player and played first base and was captain for several Oceanside teams, including the Oceanside Athletic Club.

He had four children — Merri, Bruce, Eric and Alison — all of whom graduated from Oceanside High School. In 1964, when he moved his business, Ideal Trucking, from Manhattan to Jersey City, he could have cut his commuting time by two hours a day had he moved to New Jersey but he steadfastly refused to leave

Oceanside, where he had many close friends and family.

Postman was a decorated World War II veteran and marched with the Jewish War Veterans in Oceanside Memorial Day parades. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son and friend. He will be missed for his intelligence, sense of humor and generosity.
