Nearly 3,000 homes and businesses in Oceanside were without power Sunday afternoon as Hurricane Irene left the area.
Trees were down and some streets were flooded, but the damage in Oceanside was not as bad as it could have been. It is unclear at this time when residents may begin to get their power back.
UPDATE: As of 3:30 p.m., LIPA has updated its website to say that there are approximately 7,500 customers in Oceanside without power. There is still no word about when power could be restored.
