Pedestrian struck in Oceanside

The Nassau County Police Homicide Squad said a pedestrian was struck crossing Long Beach Road in Oceanside on Aug. 15 about 7:25 p.m. Oceanside Fire Chief John Madden said it was a homeless man known around the area. The 78-year-old man was pushing a shopping cart when he tried to cross in the area of Bellevue Ave. He was in the northbound lanes of Long Beach road when a 38-year-old male driver in a 2015 Ford Explorer hit him. Madden said the driver stayed at the scene. The victim was taken to a local hospital with severe head injuries. No charges were filed.
