Rotary Tip-off raises scholarship money

Oceanside and Lawrence split games in the Rotary Tip-Off Classic Dec. 2 at Oceanside High School. The Lady Sailors defeated the Lady Golden Tornadoes, 55-50, to start the evening. Tina Pumo earned MVP honors with 12 points, four assists and four steals. Allison Brooks had 16 points and Woodlynn Daniel added 15. Lawrence’s Farrah Desvarieux led all scorers with 19 points.

In the boys’ game, Lawrence rallied in the fourth quarter for a 60-55 victory over the Sailors. Ibraheem Shamseldim had 13 points and four rebounds to pick up MVP honors. Eddie Robinson added 12 points and Dwayne Daniel 11 for the Golden Tornadoes, who outscored Oceanside 22-11 in the final quarter. Greg Gilbert paced the hosts with 16 points.

The event also raised $3,000, which will be used for scholarships for college-bound seniors from Oceanside and Lawrence High School.
