“They are a unique bunch, skilled at soccer, they love doing other things too,” said Jenn Lazzaro, Assistant Coach of the Sirens soccer team. The new season kicks off with a game against the Arsenal Orange from Connecticut.

“Not only are they award winners on the field, they are community minded as well,” Lazarro continued, “Several of the girls donated hair for cancer patients, they collected bins of candy and sent them to our troops overseas, and they worked with special needs kids on the south shore.”

The Sirens, from Oceanside, were the first South Shore Elite Soccer Academy (SESA) girls team, when there were three boys teams, Lazarro said. Now there are three girls teams and six boys teams in the club.

The Sirens have racked up some pretty impressive statistics:

Recent 1st Place Tournaments

• May 2014 - Massapequa Memorial Day Tournament, first place two years in a row. (2013 and 2014)

• July 2014 - MAPS Classic in NJ

• Oct 2014- Northport Columbus Day Tournament

• Jan. 2015 - SUSA Bubble Winter Classic

• Feb. 2015 - EMSC Winter Tournament

• Fall NYCSL NYPL Division 1- finished fourth, second in the league for most goals scored.

“The girls have been playing together for years, eleven of them were Peewees in Oceanside,” Lazzaro said. They had been part of the Oceanside United Soccer Club, but left for SESA in 2013, because, she explained, “it was a better environment to develop the girls.”

They practice on Mitchell Field, and hold games at the Waldorf School in Garden City.
